Effect of THC hemp oil in depression
As per a report of the World Health Organization, there are easily upwards of 300 million people across age groups, who suffer from depression across the globe. There is a wide range of treatments for depression that have tested effective in improving symptoms. A combination of psychotherapy and medicines are effective in reducing the symptoms of depression, and therapy with either type alone is usually ineffective.

THC helped relieve depression in rats, even when they also suffered from diabetes. Scientists had to give them a few doses of THC, starting 24 hours before testing. In another study a single dose of THC had rapid antidepressant effects on both rats and mice, lasting up to 7 days after the treatment. Additionally, THC’s antidepressant effects are even more effective when combined with an SSRI, in mice.
The endocannabinoids produced in our bodies help to control several functions of the body such as pain sensation, mood, sleep, and appetite. Endocannabinoids show their effects by clinging to the receptors where they activate the actions of serotonin which acts to reduce stress levels and improve mood. Serotonin additionally acts by binding to its receptors in neurons. On binding to their respective receptors, these chemical substances trigger a series of events inside each neuron stimulating processes that control stress and improve mood.
THC has been found to help in potentiating the effects of serotonin by enhancing the activity of the neuron receptors and by modulating the actions of the endocannabinoids it also improve depressive symptoms.
THC oil is available in several forms including capsules, tinctures, topical forms, and concentrates. However, it is most commonly consumed in oral form.
In the management of depression, THC oil may be taken in the capsule and tincture forms. People with depression can begin with a dose of 5 to 10mg daily. THC gel capsules are available from a size of 25 mg per pill which is considered safe enough, to begin with, this dosage due to a good safety profile THC has. After a dose is ingested the effects of THC are long duration lasting for several hours and most people report feeling better for up to 24 hours. However, a person will only begin to notice these effects only after 90 minutes of ingestion of THC oil.
It is recommended to consult with the physician before starting THC hemp oil to prevent drug interactions of any medical conditions. Additionally, without consulting the physician, do not start or discontinue any drug while using THC hemp oil.
